About Us

Why Our Church

What to Expect

  • Worship begins at 9:45am, but great coffee and donuts are served beforehand. Join us in fellowship around 9:30am. Then, please feel welcome to bring your coffee and donuts into the worship space when the music begins.
  • If you have kids, we hope they’ll join us for worship! We believe that worship is a multi-generational, church-family experience! You’ll find family seating available at tables, with activities for your children.
  • If you’d like a nursery for your littlest ones, we have one of those, too! Or, you can rock your littlest ones during worship in the rocking chairs provided.
  • Dress is casual — come as you are!
  • Worship consists of modern worship music, modern arrangements of familiar hymns, a profession of faith that reminds us of historical Christian beliefs, a sermon, and weekly celebration of Holy Communion.
  • Weekly Holy Communion is a big deal, because it’s our most tangible reminder of God’s grace. And God’s grace is the biggest deal of all.
  • You are welcome to attend the small group that meets immediately following worship, and of course you are welcome to participate in any of our ministries offered on our main campus — Bible studies, small groups, our School for Little People preschool, music ministries, and ministries with children and youth. Who we are

  • We are newcomers to Christianity, lifelong Methodists, and former members of many different Christian denominations.
  • We are young and old, married and single, gay and straight, liberal and conservative, non-conformists and traditionalists, those recovering from addictions, those still battling addictions, and those whose challenges take other forms.
  • We are imperfect children of God who find meaning and purpose as followers of Christ, and who find authentic community at 118 W. Pecan Street.
  • We are people who risk asking the tough questions, who are comfortable wrestling with important issues, and whose identity is shaped by seeking to follow the teachings of Christ as best we can.
  • We are those who want to be intentional about our spiritual journey, and who believe that it is through Jesus that we find our way to God.

our theology

  • We are a campus of First Methodist Sherman, which means that the theology you’ll discover here begins and ends in the love of God. We believe that God desires a relationship with every single one of us. Regardless of who we are, what we’ve done, or where we’ve been.
  • The love of God towards us is expressed through the concept of grace — God’s unmerited, unearned, and un-earnable gift that forgives our sins and empowers us to live a life of love and service to the world.
  • It is God’s grace that calls us into relationship, calls us to community in a congregation of Christ’s Church.
  • It is God’s grace that puts us in a right relationship with God, through the life, ministry, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
  • And it is God’s grace that works in and through each of us, empowering us to be the hands and feet of Christ in the world.

Joining the church

  • Occasionally throughout the year, we invite those who are interested in consider officially joining our community of faith.
  • To us, joining a church means making a covenant of deeper commitment:
    • Prayers — covenant to pray regularly (ideally, daily) for the spiritual health and growth of both the congregation and yourself
    • Presence — covenant to attend worship each week, unless you are ill, working, or out of town
    • Gifts — covenant to tithe or be growing towards the tithe (and beyond), and to make an annual pledge reflecting this commitment
    • Service — covenant to support the ministry and outreach of the church by serving in some way, both within the congregation and beyond
    • Witness — covenant to help foster a culture of invitation, by inviting those who do not have a church home to try First Methodist Sherman

Wonderful modern spirit filled service that welcomes everyone wherever they are in their life and spiritual journey.

Mosaic is home for my family. I can not express how much joy I get from raising my babies in such an awesome atmosphere with such amazing people.

I have always felt welcomed at almost any church service I had attended in the past. However, Mosaic is the first place since my childhood church that I found what I had been looking for: home.
